fabtic’s next foundation training course for staff working with children and teenagers who set fires will take place online in March 2021.
The five-day, CPD accredited training explores the latest juvenile firesetting research and equips delegates with the practical tools required to work effectively with children and teenagers who set fires.
The course is delivered by frontline practitioner and supervisor Joanna Foster, author of Children and Teenagers Who Set Fires: Why They Do It and How to Help. Recently, Joanna’s research at the University of Cambridge explored how frontline practitioners identify risk and need when addressing juvenile firesetting behaviour, and her findings are already receiving much interest from both the academic and frontline practice worlds.
Previous delegates of the foundation course include personnel from fire and rescue services, YOTs, NHS, CAMHS, HMPPS, youth services, education, social care, police, secure units, academia and forensic psychology. Accruing 35 hours of CPD, the course content includes the latest juvenile firesetting research, principles of effective intervention, child development and how it relates to fire safety messages, understanding ‘bad behaviour in children’ and trauma-informed care, defensible decision-making, and protecting the protectors. Practical and creative strategies are used throughout, ensuring those attending leave with hands-on activities to use in their client work, whether face-to-face or online.
The move to online training, supervision and direct work with clients since March 2020 has proved successful for fabtic, with positive feedback received from course delegates that includes,
“Thank you for a great course. I have learnt so much. I don’t think I have ever attended a training course that has actually ‘trained’ me as much as this one.”
“Thank you so much for the wonderful training you provided over the past 5 days, your knowledge of the subject as well as your lived professional experience was incredible. The content is fantastic and your empathy, energy and passion shone through via a screen.”
The firesetting foundation training will be delivered online on 8, 10, 12, 15 and 17 March 2021 from 0930 to 1630hrs daily. Delivered via Zoom, regular screen breaks are included throughout, plus a 45-minute lunch break.
The cost of the five-day course per delegate is £550+VAT, including signed CPD certificate.
