fabtic is proud to bring you a one-day conference entitled ‘Working With Children That Hurt’.

The one-day conference brings together a range of subject experts to explore the themes of juvenile firesetting by children and young people, childhood trauma and repair, children impacted by parental imprisonment, and the effect of racism on children and teenagers’ resilience and identity.

All four presenters are published authors in their specialist subjects and will be discussing the following areas,

  • Joanna Foster, criminologist, on working creatively with children and young people who set fires;
  • Betsy de Thierry, psychotherapist, discusses childhood trauma and repair;
  • Lucy Baldwin, senior lecturer and researcher, explores the impact of maternal imprisonment on children;
  • Susan Cousins, counsellor, talks about her own personal story of how racism affected her identity and wellbeing as a child and teenager.

The conference is hosted throughout by senior lecturer and former assistant chief probation officer Roz Morrison. Roz is one of the few black women in the UK to have ever reached the post of assistant chief probation officer.

The day’s presentations and conversations will be captured by graphic illustrator Emma Paxton, who will be live-drawing throughout the event.
